Highlights of the day
In the wild heart of Triglav National Park, towards the Seven Lakes Valley Triglav trekking route
In the morning, enjoy a private transfer to Trenta (620 m), the starting point of your trek. Let the adventure begin! Leave the asphalt behind and enter the heart of the Julian Alps for a magnificent alpine crossing through the most spectacular landscapes of Triglav National Park.
From Trenta, the trail follows an easy forest road alongside the Beladovec stream. The wide, even ground is ideal for setting a relaxed pace early on. Gradually, the forest thins out, revealing increasingly open and rocky terrain, until you reach the Trebiški dol hunting lodge. From here, the track narrows, becoming a well-marked mountain path and an old mule track with regular hairpin bends between the walls of Špičje, Velika Glava and Veliki Konj. The climb is steady but never excessively steep, with the ground alternating between grassy and stony sections — typical of the alpine environment — and a few passages on steeper slopes, though there are no technical difficulties.
In the second half of the journey, the forest gradually gives way to open, panoramic slopes where you can enjoy the sun on your way to the Prehodavci saddle. From here, you can reach the Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih mountain hut (2,071 m). The view from here is extraordinary: to the east, you can see the peaks of Vršac, Kanjavec and the Poprovec and Vršaki groups. To the south, the picturesque Triglav Lakes Valley opens up, framed by the peaks of Velika and Mala Zelnarica, Zadnja Lopa, Mali and Veliko Špičje. On a clear day, Kobariški Stol, Kanin, Mangart, Jalovec, Mojstrovka and Prisank can also be seen, as well as Triglav, the king of the Julian Alps. On clear days, Montasio, Jof Fuart and the snow-capped Hochalmspitze appear on the horizon amid the peaks of the Hohe Tauern.
Overnight stay in a dormitory in the refuge, in an authentic alpine atmosphere. Dinner and breakfast must be purchased separately at the refuge.
NOTA: The first day involves the most challenging uphill climb of the entire itinerary, as you have to ascend from the valley. The climb is steady but never excessively steep and there are no technical difficulties. In the second part of the route, once you leave the woods, you will walk through open, sunny terrain, so it is important to set off with plenty of water. The terrain alternates between wooded sections, mule tracks and stony, uneven alpine paths, so hiking boots with good grip and ankle support are recommended.
Day 3
From Zasavska koča (2071m) to Koča pod Bogatinom mountain hut (1513m)
Meals and accommodation

Highlights of the day
Seven Lakes Valley Triglav trekking and the Komna Highlands
After a hearty breakfast at the refuge, the descent begins through the magnificent Valley of the Seven Lakes of Triglav, one of the most iconic locations in Triglav National Park. This glacial valley is a true natural paradise, characterised by seven permanent lakes and several intermittent ones. With the ever-changing light and seasons, the landscape is constantly surprising. Named after their ever-changing colours, the lakes — Green Lake, Brown Lake and Black Lake — offer spectacular reflections of larch trees, meadows and rock faces, creating an environment reminiscent of the great North American parks.
While the trail is well marked and free of technical difficulties, some sections are rocky and steep, particularly in the initial stages. The terrain alternates between historic mule tracks and uneven rocky sections, so trekking poles are recommended. After about two hours, you will reach the enchanting Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih mountain hut (1,683 m), located among the lakes — a perfect place to stop for lunch or a moment of relaxation.
From here, the trail leaves the picturesque valley and continues towards the Komna karst plateau, which overlooks the Bohinj Valley. Passing through coniferous forests, clearings, and high-altitude pastures, the constantly rising and falling trail offers a varied and pleasant walk until it reaches Koča pod Bogatinom (1,513 m), a mountain hut located in an area of great historical interest. During the First World War, this was the site of one of the most important military camps in the Bohinj area. There were over twenty stone and wooden buildings here, including a bakery, a chapel and a small funicular railway, which was built in 1915. The fallen were buried in a small cemetery, which was later incorporated into the large, pyramid-shaped monument that stands near the refuge today.
Dinner and overnight stay in a mountain hut.
NOTA: While the route does not present any technical difficulties, the initial descent from Zasavska koča to the Valley of Seven Lakes can be steep and rocky. We therefore recommend using trekking poles and wearing boots with good grip. The trail then continues along a variety of terrain, including mule tracks, karst sections and wooded clearings, and is always clearly marked.
Day 4
From Koča pod Bogatinom (1513m) to Ribčev Laz (Lake Bohinj, 546m)
Meals and accommodation
Daily hiking information
Highlights of the day
From the Komna Plateau, take in the turquoise waters of Lake Bohinj.
On the last day of the walk, you will enjoy a spectacular descent from the high-altitude landscapes to the shores of Lake Bohinj. Starting from the Koča pod Bogatinom refuge (1,513 m), you will descend along a well-defined path towards the Dom na Komni mountain hut, which is nestled in the vast, undulating Komna karst plateau surrounded by mountain pines and rowans. Shortly after the mountain hut, the trail begins to descend into the woods, winding its way down through a series of hairpin bends. Wind your way through beautiful beech and spruce trees, enjoying panoramic views of Lake Bohinj along the way. The lake’s unmistakable turquoise colour can be seen peeping through the trees.
After about two hours of steady descent, you will reach the bottom of the valley near the Savica car park, which is the access point to the famous Slap Savica waterfall — one of the most popular attractions in Triglav National Park. From here, a pleasant walk along a dirt road and then a paved road leads through woods, flower-filled meadows and alpine chalets to Ukanc, a small village on the western shore of Lake Bohinj.
Once you reach Ukanc (653 m), the magnificent scenery of Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest and deepest lake, opens up before you. Walking alongside the lake on a flat, scenic route, you will eventually arrive in Ribčev Laz, the tourist centre of the lake. Here, the stage ends and you will spend the night in a hotel. The emerald waters of the lake, surrounded by forests and mountains, provide the perfect conclusion to your trek, offering an ideal place to relax, take a swim or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the alpine landscape.
NOTA: If you use the luggage transport service, your bags will be waiting for you at your accommodation in Ribčev Laz when you arrive, so you can finish your trek in complete relaxation.
NOTA: Along the route, you have the option of visiting the famous Savica Waterfall (Slap Savica) in Triglav National Park. There is an access charge for the path leading to the viewpoint, which is about 20–25 minutes’ walk up a 550-step staircase (one way). We recommend allowing 45–60 minutes for the entire visit, including a stop at the viewpoint.
Day 5
